| Oberon is
a 3 hour drive west of Sydney on the western fall
of the Great Dividing Range in the Blue
Mountains between the Jenolan Caves and Bathurst & is
1113 metres above sea level. It enjoys cool summers,
balmy autumns, cold crisp winters (sometimes with
snow) & lush springs.
Due
to its location Oberon has
a true mountain climate, sometimes quickly changing
so that even in summer visitors should bring a
jumper or jacket.
Oberon was
proclaimed a village in 1863 & has grown to a shire population
of 4500 of whom 2500 live in the town. Prime lambs & beef
cattle are the main rural industries. Brussel sprouts, broccoli,
potatoes & peas are the main horticultural industries with
trials of other crops commencing such as tulip & daffodil
bulbs, nut farms & plant nurseries.
Timber processing by Carter Holt Harvey
is the major secondary industry with the trees sourced
from NSW State Forests, radiata pine plantations & some
private growers.

There
are many interesting areas adjacent to Oberon including
Jenolan Caves, Kanangra Walls, Black Springs & Rockley & the
Kanangra Boyd National Park which is supervised by
the National
Parks & Wildlife Service with bush walking
tracks maintained.
Activities
- golf, bowls, tennis, sailing on Oberon Dam, trout
fishing, horse riding, fossicking, gold panning,
bush walking, mushrooming in the pine forests, trail
bike & 4 wheel driving.
